The majority of last year was very busy for Sean and I so there was little time for projects and blogging. With the start of the new year, I have finally been able to get some long awaited projects completed in our Master Bedroom and bathroom.
I had already re-purposed the old window we got from the Woodstock Market
to be a picture frame and added the wall decal using my Cricut
. See that under post here
. I was able to finish the nightstands and lamps as well as add some wall decor in the bedroom and add some personal touches to the master bath, post about the bathroom will be coming soon.
The nightstands are the Rast 3-drawer chest from Ikea. We shamefully bought these a while ago and Sean built them right away, but I did not have the time to finish them so they sat in my craft room staring at me until now.
Here is what they looked built like right out of the box. They are solid pine construction, have a closed front to keep doggy noses out, and affordable.
After giving the nightstand a light sanding, I painted them using PPG Porter Paint Hi-Hide
in Bone White. I went with PPG paint because I was able to get a friends and family discount coupon that saved me 50%! Gotta love savings.
I applied two coats of paint allowing the paint to dry completely before applying the second coat. After two coats of paint I applied the stain. I used my tried and true Ralph Lauren faux finish smoke color stain to give the nightstand an aged look to match the bed and dresser.
To finish the night stands off I applied a coat of Minwax Polycrylic
clear finish to the top to help protect it.
We received hand me down brass Pottery Barn task lamps from the in-laws. I loved the lamp but was not in love with the brass color. I painted the lamps to better fit the style of our house. I used Rust-Oleum Metallic spray paint in flat burnished amber. I loved how smooth this paint goes on and finished the piece.
After finishing the nightstands and lamps, the wall needed something to pull it all together. So after seeing similar signs on Pinterest, I thought I would make my own. This is actually really easy. Using one of my new favorite fonts, Magnolia Sky, I printed “Good Morning Gorgeous” and “Hello There Handsome” onto card stock and trimmed to 8×10. I framed them in grey wood frames I purchased on sale at Michaels
The new nightstands, lamps, and wall decor came together nicely. Here is a picture of all three pieces together.
Stay tuned for the updates I made to the master bathroom!
